About Me

Hi! My name is Stan and I'm from Stroud, in Gloucestershire. I have been playing brass since I was 7 years old, and I am currently playing Repiano Cornet with Chalford Band (pictured above). I love everything to do with banding, from concerts to contests, and have committed myself to the cause since I began playing.

I have spent a lot of time creating my own arrangements for brass band, with my recent favourites being Friend Like Me from Aladdin (Soprano Solo) and Hedwig's Theme from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I post small snippets of these arrangements on my Instagram page, so go and check those out if you're interested!

About the Blog

I have decided to start this blog as sort of an experiment. It might last a long time, it might not, it just depends on how I feel really. I love brass bands and everything to do with them, and I wanted a place where I could talk about them without boring the pants of everyone in the room! I’m not really a writer, so don’t expect everything to be written very nicely, I’m mostly just thinking out loud. Well, on a keyboard, I suppose.

I’m going to be talking about test pieces a lot, giving my thoughts and opinions on then from a player’s point of view, and I intend to talk a little bit about the various contests and concerts that I perform in. From time to time, there might also be some chat about various aspects of the banding movement, as there’s lots of talk about registration issues and qualification changes and such at the moment.

And actually, that’s another thing. ‘Chat’. Yes, I am just writing about my thoughts, but I’d also like this to be a conversation. So, if you’re reading I would love to hear your comments and opinions too!
